Why did Barcelona let Ronaldinho go?

It seems like they are still trying to contend (hence why they are refusing to release Lionel Messi for the Olympics and want him around for Champions League qualifying). If they are really going for it all, why did they get rid of their second-best player? Was he acting all disgruntled like Cristiano Ronaldo, or are they going to sign someone else?
