What is the best filter for an 80 gallon tank with 2 aquatic turtles?

I have 2 aquatic turtles in an 80 gallon tank (filled half way). In tank filters clog so easily, is a canister filter the answer? If so..what needs to be changed in terms of filtration medium with a canister filter
